Highly eligible, including Mille Miglia

Matching Numbers example

Chassis no. SL 0245 B

The car offered here, chassis no. SL 0245 B, was delivered new through Fergus Motors in New York City in 1952. Although initial ownership is not known, by 1958 the car was owned by Bernard Ryan, a resident in New Jersey who kept the car for some 25 years before passing it to Stanley Weiss, also in New York.

In 1984 Weiss restored the car and painted it in the attractive colours still seen today, silver with red side panels. The mechanical and bodywork was undertaken by Works Automotive Ltd of Port Jefferson, with over 600 man hours involved, costing over $22,000! Showtime Auto Restoration Inc of Setauket carried out the preparation and repaint work with totaled over $15,000, with George Whitman fitting a new interior, at a cost of over $2,000.

After Weiss’s passing in 1999, SL 0245 B was offered at Christies Pebble Beach auction on 29th August 1999 where it sold for $34,500. Then in June 2002 the car was bought by Willem Van Huystee in Pennsylvania, USA. Huystee immediately entered the car in the 2002 Meadowbrook Concours d’Elegance where it won both the ‘Best Race Car’, and ‘The Way It Was’ awards. Later in September of the same year Huystee and SL 0245 B entered the Radnor Hunt Concours d’Elegance where it again won, this time the ‘Radnor Hunt Chairman’s Trophy’. In 2003 the car was displayed at the New York Auto Show before participating in the Mille Miglia and Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix. Over the next couple fo years Huystee entered SL 0245 B in various other Concours before selling the car to its current owner in February 2007, at which point the mileage was noted as 40,729. Throughout this ownership, the car has been entered at many Concours and participated at several California Mille events whilst being maintained to the highest level. In the summer of 2010 the cars body was prepared and repainted by Velasquez Auto Body in Palm Desert, California.

The Siata Daina Gran Sport Type B Barchetta is a seldom-seen car, and even rarer with its original engine as per SL 0245 B. A highly eligible car, the Siata would make a great entry for the Mille Miglia, or a Sunday cruise to the next owners favourite restaurant.
