The Lamborghini Jarama 400 GT
Unveiled at the 1970 Geneva Motor Show, the Lamborghini Jarama was styled by legendary Bertone designer, Marcello Gandini and would be Lamborghini’s final front engined V12 Grand Tourer. Continuing the Lamborghini tradition, this car was named after a district in northern Madrid, Spain, well known for its breeding of fighting bulls. Coincidentally, the car also shares its name with the Spanish race circuit.
The Jarama was powered by Lamborghini’s famed 3,929 cc V-12 which was fed by six Weber twin-choke carburettors, producing an impressive 350 bhp at 7,500 rpm. Power was transmitted to the road through a five-speed manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive, with the early Jarama’s, including the example offered here, benefitted from use of same magnesium alloy wheels fitted to the Miura.
Ferrucio Lamborghini’s personal Jarama is on display at the official Lamborghini museum at the company’s factory in Sant’Agata Bolognese, clearly Lamborghini remain proud of the car, their final front-engined V12 grand tourer.
This Lamborghini Jarama 400 GT
The Jarama 400 GT presented here, chassis 10034, completed manufacture at the Lamborghini factory in Sant’Agata Bolognese, Italy in early 1971. Originally finished in Silver metallic over a black leather interior, this Jarama was delivered new through the Swiss dealer, G.G. Nations in Geneva. In April 1988, this Jarama was bought by Alain Mettan in Champery, and assigned the Swiss registration ‘VS 82482.
Later this car was bought by Richard Howard Close in Gloucestershire, England, who went on to register the car in 2010, being assigned the UK license ‘RBY 843K’. Close clearly understood the importance of this rare Lamborghini grand tourer, embarking upon a full restoration in 2007 with Colin Clarke Engineering in England.
Colin Clarke Engineering are well-known as Lamborghini specialists, consistently producing quality restorations, with this Jarama further confirming this reputation. This no-expense spared restoration is documented with invoices totalling £80,000 and many photos detailing the works.
This restoration was completed in early 2012, at which point the car was also MOT’d, before being bought by its current, German owner. Once in Germany, this car was assigned the registration ‘R-L813’ and TUV inspected in July 2012.
Today, this car presents as a recently restored, and well-maintained example of Lamborghini’s last four-seat V-12 grand tourer.
